Feeder is a device for semi-automatically loading, whose mission is to facilitate loading work by reduction the height at which the loader have to pick up the shovel with the dredged material, from 1.2 to 1.5 m on 0.2 to 0.3 m, thus increasing the efficiency of loading. Feeders are lifting up dredged material to the desired height and land it on the substituted handling equipment (conveyors or carts). Excavated material is loaded onto the charger in the downstream end thereof; at the higher end is located the discharge drum.

Feeders are classified according to:

1. Type of lifting up dredged material
a) belt feeders- output is being transported on a rubber belt
b) scraper- chain feeders - output is being transported by scraper chains

2. Workplace:
a) underground
b) surface

3. Type of chassis:
a) transportable- rail chassis or wheeled type undercarriage
b) Portable- set directly on the saucer
